Closing Date: 14th February. Based: Selborne, Hampshire
Gilbert White’s House and Gardens is an important heritage site preserving the legacy of three great explorers of the natural world and enabling visitors of all ages to experience nature close up. We are looking for a finance professional with a passion for the natural world to join our Board.
Against the background of a changing climate and biodiversity loss our Board, staff and around 100 dedicated volunteers promote understanding of the environment, prepare future generations to care for it and create an accessible environment. (Our Field Studies Centre welcomes over 5,000 young people annually.) Our collections cover Gilbert White, who influenced scientists and naturalists from Darwin to Attenborough, and the pioneering travels of the Oates family in Africa and Antarctica.
Having secured grants from major donors and launched a ‘Fund for the Future’, we are seeking a trustee with professional financial skills and a passion for natural history (and/or polar exploration or gardens). Previous trustee experience not essential.
The Board meets six times a year, virtually or in Selborne. Finance and income generation sub-groups meet online. Living locally is not essential, but being within reasonable distance enables trustees to get to know staff/operations and join in year round activities.
