Shaftesbury Abbey Museum is a volunteer-run charity and company limited by guarantee (ie no shareholders). Our museum and gardens are open to the public, free of charge, on a daily basis between April and October.
We are seeking a replacement part-time (usually 5-8 hrs/week) Honorary Treasurer who will have an essential role in overseeing the planning and accounting of our finances to ensure both the short- and long-term sustainability of our charity:
- Overseeing and managing the charity’s financial performance and the keeping of its accounting records – the detailed tasks of which are carried out by a bookkeeper reporting to the Treasurer.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations when reporting to our official regulators (Charities Commission, Companies House, HMRC).
- Controlling the charity’s bank account(s), ensuring prompt claiming/paying in grants, donations, shop takings, etc and paying out wages and supplier invoices when due.
- Liaising on behalf of the organisation with many others, including banks, funding bodies, advisers, suppliers, contractors, etc.
- Attending bi-monthly Board Meetings and providing financial advice and guidance to colleagues on the Board of trustees/directors, including via financial planning (annual and multi-year) and monthly reporting of actual income and expenditure versus plans, separately for general operations and for major projects.
