Northampton Students’ Union is entering an exciting new chapter, and we are looking for a passionate and skilled accountant to join our Board of Trustees as a Lay Trustee. As a Lay Trustee, you will play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of a student-led charity that supports over 12,000 members. You will work alongside elected student officers, external trustees, and our Senior Leadership Team to ensure our financial sustainability uphold our values, and champion the student experience.
This voluntary role involves attending four main board meetings per year (two in-person away days, two virtual meetings), plus chairing our finance sub-committee (virtual). We welcome applications from individuals with a background in accountancy who are committed to good governance, independent thinking, and making a meaningful impact.
You do not need prior experience in the student movement, just a belief in our mission, a collaborative spirit, and a readiness to contribute your financial insight to a diverse and forward-thinking board. The River Thame Conservation Trust (RTCT) is a local environmental charity. Its aim is to improve the biodiversity and water quality of the River Thame and its surrounding freshwaters and to improve public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the river catchments and wildlife.
RTCT’s four strategic priorities are to:
- develop partnerships with other NGOs with complementary interests;
- increase biodiversity through its habitat creation and restoration;
- promote volunteering and citizen science; and
- maintain its financial security.
RTCT is looking to appoint a new Trustee with the role of RTCT Treasurer. As well as fulfilling the general duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer will be expected to:

Shaftesbury Abbey Museum is a volunteer-run charity and company limited by guarantee (ie no shareholders). Our museum and gardens are open to the public, free of charge, on a daily basis between April and October.
We are seeking a replacement part-time (usually 5-8 hrs/week) Honorary Treasurer who will have an essential role in overseeing the planning and accounting of our finances to ensure both the short- and long-term sustainability of our charity:
- Overseeing and managing the charity’s financial performance and the keeping of its accounting records – the detailed tasks of which are carried out by a bookkeeper reporting to the Treasurer.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations when reporting to our official regulators (Charities Commission, Companies House, HMRC).
- Controlling the charity’s bank account(s), ensuring prompt claiming/paying in grants, donations, shop takings, etc and paying out wages and supplier invoices when due.
- Liaising on behalf of the organisation with many others, including banks, funding bodies, advisers, suppliers, contractors, etc.
- Attending bi-monthly Board Meetings and providing financial advice and guidance to colleagues on the Board of trustees/directors, including via financial planning (annual and multi-year) and monthly reporting of actual income and expenditure versus plans, separately for general operations and for major projects.

The Prison Phoenix Trust is the leading yoga charity in the UK and Ireland, sharing meditation and yoga with people in prison since 1988. We are recruiting for a new voluntary position of TREASURER to join our Board of Trustees. We are seeking a qualified finance professional who would enjoy sharing responsibility for the strategic direction and governance of the charity, and to lead on monitoring its financial administration, and report to the Board regarding its financial health, working closing with our Finance Manager who is responsible for day-to-day financial management.
Involvement usually revolves around the quarterly Trustees meetings, usually on Tuesday evenings, in Oxford or online, with attendance in person encouraged at least once per year; annual strategy day with the staff team; annual public event; ad hoc committee work. You will be joining a friendly team of Trustees, volunteers and paid staff to help support a unique and effective organisation that offers hope and support to people who live and work in prison.
